Why we love Belfast


We found Belfast by accident. On a road trip to check out a potential sailboat (ended up not the right boat), we discovered Belfast Harbor had moorings available. Our experience in NH and southern Maine had been long waits and big price tags for moorings. A quick chat with Harbormaster Kathy made up our minds. We’d find our boat later, but Belfast would already be her home.

History

  • the movie Peyton Place was filmed here (we share along with the author the "real" Peyton Place as a hometown!)

  • Penobscot Bay: roughly 60 miles x 30 miles, hundreds of islands
  • Sailing: best and most scenic cruising grounds in Maine
  • Weather: morning fog, mid-day brisk summer winds, calm evenings
  • Distance from home: far enough, but not too far (3 hours)
